The practical conditions that allow participants to rest, work and take part in the journey: accommodation, access to meals, basic amenities and local support. A host can contribute to one aspect without providing everything.

Safe, clean and welcoming places to stay, such as guesthouses, artist residences, institutional accommodation or suitable private homes. Luxury is not the priority; dependable arrangements and space to rest matter more. Shared accommodation can be discussed, subject to the group’s needs.

Ideally, yes. Staying together supports the cohesion of the group and makes shared work, rest and daily coordination easier.

However, you are welcome to propose what you have available, including accommodation for part of the group or a workspace. We will discuss capacity, suitability and practical arrangements with you.

Yes. Contributions might include meals, working space, local introductions, guiding, media connections or a shared artistic activity.

Mobility is central to the project. Support could also include providing a suitable vehicle or transport within your country, or helping the group travel onward to the next country. Vehicle use, drivers, fuel, insurance and any cross-border requirements would need to be discussed and agreed in advance.

A conversation, workshop, portfolio exchange, screening, studio visit or encounter with local artists and communities. Activities should be developed together, in response to the place—not treated as a fixed programme that every host must deliver.

Yes. The invitation is open to individuals, artist-led initiatives, collectives and institutions. What matters is the connection to the place and the proposed contribution.

Proposals are welcome from across the countries on the route. The map is an overview; suggesting a location does not guarantee a stop.

Realising a trans-African road trip is cost-intensive. We therefore primarily seek in-kind support to help meet the overall costs of making the project possible. This may include accommodation, transport, meals, working spaces or other amenities offered without charge to the project, with the contributor covering the costs associated with their support.

Some proposals may involve costs that Invisible Borders would need to cover. Please identify these clearly in your expression of interest, as this helps us assess whether we can proceed with the proposed collaboration. Any payment, shared expense or other financial responsibility must be discussed and agreed in advance. Submitting a proposal does not commit either party to expenditure.

Group size, dates and length of stay will be confirmed directly with prospective hosts as arrangements develop. Detailed movements and hosting arrangements are coordinated privately with the relevant partners.

Hosting is an opportunity to collaborate with Invisible Borders and participate in the artistic exchanges and encounters that take shape through the journey.

Confirmed hosts and supporting organisations or individuals will be acknowledged on our website as collaborators or supporters of the 2027 Road Trip. Recognition will also be included in relevant media and publicity materials where feasible and appropriate.

The nature of the collaboration and how each contribution is credited will be agreed together.

The team reviews the proposal and contacts prospective collaborators where there is a possible fit. Submitting is the beginning of a conversation, not confirmation of a partnership.
