A Volatile Negotiation Between the Past and Present: Invisible Borders Trans-African Project
Okereke sets the project against the opening decades of the century in Africa, and argues for something more demanding than the confidence of an “Africa is the future” mantra: a full immersion in the present, where the inherited past is still being negotiated. The essay gives the Moving Archive the phrase it takes its own proposition from.

Emeka Okereke: Invisible Borders Trans-African Photographers Organization
Written as a nomination, Mohaiemen’s statement reads Invisible Borders from the outside: he encounters the project in Dhaka in February 2020, at the installation of the Trans-Bangladeshi newspaper, weeks before the borders close. From there he argues for what a Trans-African organisation means against the incentive structures of contemporary art, and against a moment when movement itself had stopped.
