Call for Participation: Borders Within II

20 June 2017 | by Emeka Okereke

Since 2009 Invisible Borders has been promoting Trans-African exchange across countries in Africa through various artistic interventions, most prominent of which is the Trans-African Road Trips. This gave rise to the arduous 141-day Trans-Continental Road Trip from Lagos, Nigeria to Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina in 2014.

In 2016, Invisible Borders decided to take an inward look at Nigeria and embarked on its first Trans-Nigerian Road Trip—Borders Within. A team of 9 participants (7 artists and 2 administrators) travelled by road across 16 cities and 14 states. The primary aim of the project was to engage in the conversation about diversity, making attempt to offer a map of it, across regions, states and ethnic formation in what we know as Nigeria today.

In 2017, Invisible Borders will seek to complete the work that was started in 2016 by embarking on Borders Within II—the second and final leg of the Borders Within Project. The 59-day road trip will see 8 participants (6 artists and 2 administrators) cover 17 states and 21 cities.

We are seeking passionate African artists (writers, photographers and filmmakers) who are interested in joining us on the road trip. If you are interested, please fill THIS form.

It is important that prospective participants know that depending on funding, Invisible Borders will cover the cost of the accommodation for all the artists and also their Per Diem. However, if we end up not having adequate funding, artists would be asked to take care of their Per Diem. Invisible Borders would communicate the final terms of participation to the participants before the road trip, giving them ample time to prepare.
