IN BETWEEN THE SIGNS
My work throughout the many editions of the Invisible Borders Road Trip takes as a central theme the idea of Intersection. I am constantly on the lookout for juxtapositions, superimpositions, and disruptions that take place within the everyday occurrences in relation to people and their immediate surroundings. In Between The Signs is a selection of momentous renditions that indicates a crosspoint between human impulses and temperaments.
These photographic works look at the intricate interactions between people and their spaces as experienced in the Africa of today – that friction between people and space in the quest for co-existence. These images represent the struggles inherent in the articulation of a Post-colonial Africa as the peoples therein employ ingenious and positive approaches to transcending the sandwiching situation of Imperialism, Capitalism and Neocolonialism.
Furthermore, they testify to an Africa at the brink of a turning point, that point where the new is struggling its way out of the old, and we are the signs as well as symptoms.
Works in this selection were created between 2009 and 2014.
