Jide Odukoya

Jide Odukoya had a very few photographs of himself as a kid, unlike his siblings who have many to show off. However, he seems to be on rampage these days to compensate for the past deprivation.

Only that he now delights in capturing those special, rare moment in the lives of other people. He started his photography career when he purchased a Canon 55oD from savings he made doing Digital Graphics design, branding of small-scale businesses and buildings (front-end aesthetics for) websites.

He quickly fell in love with street photography and has since photographed on the streets of Nigeria across major cities, including Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt. His styles is Contemporary, Urban, Artistic and Photojournalistic, and has been greatly influenced by wedding and street photography.

His works focus on social urbanization, immigration and domestic issues and conceptual work. Through a combination of photography, text and digital art, he aims to illustrate broader issues through individual stories. His work is a testament to his belief that intimate, sensitive photographs are a catalyst to change and sterilization to human suffering.

His works have been widely featured in a lot of photo festivals around the world i.e. New York, Sudan, Lagos, Cameroon, Ethiopia and in popular dailies both locally and internationall i.e. New York Times, The Guardian UK and American Al Jazeera.

He holds a national diploma in Industrial Maintenance Engineering from the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, and a B. Sc. in Systems Engineering from the prestigious University of Lagos. He blogs regularly on www.jideodukoya.com. When he is not doing photography, he swims, spends time with friends and travels around the world.
